John and Allison’s Wedding!

John and Allison are married – yay! And theirs was one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve ever had the joy of shooting. Not only was the decor and ambiance just lovely all the way through, but their family and friends were also as warm and welcoming as they could be. We walked away from shooting their wedding so incredibly grateful that we were asked to be a part of it. I am 100% serious when I say that we have the most incredible couples in the universe! Somehow we always get the best of the best! Thank you, John and Allison (and Steve and Anne and Mr. and Mrs. H and everyone else!) for letting us share in your wonderful wedding day!

Before I go any further, I have two thank-yous I need to mention for people that will not show up in the photos below. First and foremost, a HUGE thank-you to Linda Dryden ((512) 327-4642) – Allison and John’s incredible coordinator. We LOVE working with Linda and think that she is simply the best! If you’re thinking of hiring a coordinator, please give her a call! She is fantastic!I also want to thank the videographers from Altared Weddings for being so great and FUN to work with! I haven’t see Allison and John’s wedding video yet, but I am sure it will be great!

Here are a few of our faves . . .

I got the “flower chills” when I saw these . . . (kudos to Westbank Flower Market!)

I love this picture! This was the sweet little flower girl watching us down below as we shot the group portraits . . . she looks like an angel, don’t ya think? ๐Ÿ™‚

Seriously some of my favorite groomsmen to ever work withย  . . . so funny and so sweet!

John may just be an angel, too!

Here’s sweet, beautiful Allison. I love her!

Allison . . . you have got to be kidding me! You are stunning!!

I love these pictures that Stan took of Allison about to take the big walk down the isle. Deep breath . . . and a little prayer. Precious.

John was givin’ Allison the googly eyes all day! ๐Ÿ™‚

Riverbend Church’s Smith Family Chapel is SO beautiful and so much fun to shoot in. Look at the ceilings – amazing!

After Allison and John’s ceremony, we headed over to one of our all-time favorite reception venues, Austin Country Club, and got a few sweet pictures of just the two of them outside before they made their entrance.

The next two pictures are in a tie for my favorite pics of the day . . .

Okay, let me just go ahead and share some of the yummy detail goodness from their reception . . .

As always, Ilios did a fantastic job with the reception lighting. We cannot say enough about what great lighting does for the mood and ambiance of your reception, but especially for the look of your pictures . . . it’s the best often-skipped thing you can do for your reception!

The cake was SO far off the hook it wasn’t even funny!

I am in LOVE . . . L-O-V-E – LOOOOVE with this picture that Stan took. This was 100% unstaged. Allison and John were sharing a moment together just before they entered the reception. It was just the two of them talking and hugging and enjoying each other’s presence on their wedding day. For a moment, the day stood still.

I just had to show you the back of Allison’s dress . . . because I can’t get over how gorgeous it is!

Steve is one of the kindest and most incredible fathers we’ve ever worked with.

There was no twisting of arms to get these folks on the dance floor. They rocked it!

What a gorgeous couple!

CONGRATULATIONS, John and Allison! Lots of love and many thanks, Stacy & Stan

Brandon and Monica are engaged!

Being around Brandon and Monica reminds me of the feeling of a Sunday afternoon. This may sound super cheesy, but I swear it’s true! The love between them is so warm . . . so carefree and without pretension. There’s something very magical about these two together. I shot their session last Sunday afternoon and decided that I had to post a sneak peek for them here on the blog this Sunday afternoonย as a tribute to the little window they gave me into their sweet, loving relationship. I was so reminded of why I wildly love what I do. Thank you, Brandon & Monica – I simply cannot wait for your big day!

I love it when couples bring their dogs! Walter was one of the sweetest and most huggable I’ve had the pleasure of working with!

This was the very last picture I took . . . and my very favorite!

The light at the end of the calm before the storm . . .

My friend Catherine just gave me a disc of some pictures she took of Quin and I sitting on our lawn when he was only a month old and, I must say, looking at these pictures brought back so many emotions.

I remember sitting on the front lawn with Quin that day . . . it was the first beautiful day of the fall that I actually felt like leaving the house. For the first month of Quin’s life, I was in total survial mode. I just needed to survive each day and that was all I could really plan or hope to do. That day sticks out in my mind as the first day that I felt like I had a grip on life again . . . that my mind and my body were mostly back – and that I was going to make it and even actually ENJOY being a mom! ๐Ÿ™‚ Later that day, I even got out of my pajamas (unbelievable!) and took Quin on his first trip to the grocery store! It was a great day. I remember calling my dad in the grocery store parking lot and telling him, with tremendous pride, that I was out with Quin all by myself – a feat that, to that point, I could have never imagined. My dad was so impressed, so proud, and so encouraging. We had a wonderful talk on the phone that day . . . a conversation that I will forever be thankful for.

As I look at these pictures Catherine took, I also can’t help but feel a twinge of sadness. You see, they were taken just three days before my dad suddenly fell ill and just over two weeks before he ultimately passed away. I look at the girl in these pictures and just feel so sorry for her. She was a new mom – overwhelmed with the greatest life change she had ever known, just trying to make it . . . and even having fresh faith that she had overcome the hardest part and that things might just begin to get easier. Little did she know that she was actually on a collision course with her life’s greatest challenge and heartbreak. Poor thing.

People ask me often how I’m doing now. It’s been almost four months since my dad passed away and I’m learning to live a normal life without him, in a world that continually moves forward. I’m learning to relish the many times each day that memories of life with him fill my mind, rather than simply mourning the weight of my loss. Remembering him is joyful, sweet, and good. I am still so sad he’s gone . . . and I still find myself in disbelief over the whole thing from time to time, but overall, I am learning that life can be happy and fun and free again.ย  I feel the strength and peace that everyone has been praying for me to receive . . . and I thank you all for your love and support.

Happy, blessed Sunday to you all!

Talkin’ BLING with Catherine Nicole!

Happy Friday, everyone!

I’ve been wanting to put this blog post together for such a long time now and I am thrilled that I finally got around to it! You may remember Catherine from her wedding that was featured on our blog in September. She and Jacob happen to be our across-the-street neighbors and they are absolutely AWESOME! Shooting their wedding was so much fun and if you have a sec, you should follow the link to check out some of our favorite pictures from their big day. These two have an incredible sense of style!

Well, I have been meaning to tell you guys about what an amazingly talented jewelery designer Catherine is. Catherine Nicole is both Catherine’s name and the name of her wildly successful jewelery business. She has been designing jewelry for many years and her current line can be found in many fabulously chic boutiques across the country, including many hot spots right here in Austin. I love Catherine’s jewelery SO much that I want every single one of my brides to wear it! I decided the best way to share her with you was to have her answer a few questions right here on the blog. So without further ado, I’m going to turn things over to Catherine and let her tell you about jewelery, her wedding, bridal advice, and more! Here we go!

How long have you been in the jewelry-designing business and why do you love it?
I have had my jewelry design business for 6 years now, and I truly love it for so many reasons (in addition to being my own boss!). You don’t buy jewelry because you need it or because it makes your butt look good or your stomach appear smaller. You buy it because it inspires you, or makes you happy, or will make someone you’re giving it to know they are loved. When I started, I had my own little boutique in Savannah, where I got to see what my designs meant to my customers. Now that I have a collection and sell to stores, I get to design with them in mind. I get to draw from everything and anything that inspires me, and translate it into something that my customers can add their own uniqueness to.

What advice would you have for brides that are choosing their wedding day accessories?

For yourself: Don’t go overboard with every possible accessory you can wear. I vote for one statement piece, like some stunning earrings, and then go dainty on the other accessories. I went simple on the earrings and bracelet and wore a long strand of pearls (which I cut from both of my grandmothers’ necklaces). … I also wore shoes with red piping though, so maybe I’m not one to talk about avoiding going overboard.

For your bridesmaids: The greatest thing about jewelry as a bridesmaid’s gift is that it is relevant to the occasion and ensures that their accessories show up great in your photographs. Plus, who doesn’t like getting jewelry?

Since you’re own wedding was so recent, what advice can you offer other brides regarding wedding details or ways to make their day run smoothly?

Never underestimate how important this day is to your families. If any one in your family has a specific picture they just can’t live without, make sure you know beforehand! Thankfully, Stacy helped us avert conflict when this happened to us.

Also, try to avoid leaving any wedding details to the last minute, and ask for help when you need it. There is a whole lot of preparation going into this day, and it would be a shame if you were too flustered to enjoy it.

Okay, just for fun: what’s your very favorite picture from your wedding and why? ๐Ÿ™‚

My wedding pictures make me so happy! I now understand why they are so important. You get to see and enjoy slowly how all your ideas came together and how happy you both were.

One of my favorites is of my husband and I looking at each other and about to dance. It isn’t a special dance where everyone is watching. It was just some moment in the evening and a beautiful look caught at just the right instant.

Also, Stacy got this awesomely classic shot of us coming back down the aisle and everyone throwing rice. My husband looks like (a) nothing has every delighted him so much as flying rice, and (b) super happy to have married me!.

I love that from our posed couple shots to us shoving cake in each others faces, the pictures were definitely us and couldn’t have been just any bride and groom. Lastly (I know I was supposed to just say one!), I really didn’t think I would care or need close-ups of inanimate objects, but I just love the photos of the details that I put so much thought into. We had a ton of unique little details, and Stacy shot them in a way that really beautifully solidified the memory of them for me. (Not to mention, some of those details I never saw in real life!). I’m so grateful that Stacy was experienced enough to ignore me when I said in our first meeting that I didn’t get why people wanted those photos!

What’s your current favorite piece you’d like to see on a bride this year?

Right now, I’m loving the Scarlett earrings on brides (Just featured in Tribeza’s Bridal issue). The crystals reflect light very well, so they make everything look more radiant.

The Stacy Earrings (named after Stacy Cross!) are my favorite for bridesmaids. They are a smaller version of the Scarlett earrings and come in a variety of colors to match their dresses.

And for the daring bride with the backless dress, I recommend the Frieda Necklace worn backwards, which just made it’s Oscar Debut this week!

Thanks, Catherine! If you’re interested in getting in touch with Catherine about your bridal jewelery OR even if you’re not taking a walk down the isle and you just want to know how you can get your hands on some gorgeous jewelery, you can email Catherine: Also, be sure to check out Catherine’s website for more from her collection. I’m telling you, you’re gonna fall in love!

Everyone have a great weekend! – Stacy

Ian and Heidi are Engaged!

When I first met Heidi, it was love at first sight! She is, after all, the most bubbly, happy, sweet, silly, fabulous girl! We met at Tom and Ashley’s wedding last year and the first thing she did was assure me that she wasn’t my crazed stalker. What?! Well, she said she was a loyal blog reader and knew everything about me and hoped that I didn’t think that was too weird. Hello!! That’s EXACTLY why I blog! I want my clients to be able to get to know us – and to know, without a doubt, that we are the right photographers for them! Our personalities are almost as much a part of what we do as our actual pictures. And besides that, there are plenty of blogs I “stalk” myself (hate that word, though!) and I know I’m not peeping in those people’s windows at night! ๐Ÿ™‚ Haha!

Anyway, Heidi and Ian are a dream to photograph, and a delight to be around. Can’t wait for their big day in April – haaaaay! ๐Ÿ™‚

We started their sesh with their fuzzy friends, Evie (named after Evander Holyfield because of a missing ear ๐Ÿ™‚ ) and Abby. These girls are the sweetest!
