What to do in the “off-season”

Well, I always tell people that Texas wedding photographers really do not experience an “off-season”, but Stan and I actually forced ourselves to have one this year and it’s been really great! I will have had 6 straight weeks of NO weddings – something that never happens, but I actually really miss shooting weddings! I cannot wait until my next one!

However, in the midst of this break from shooting, I’ve ramped up the office/logistical/housekeeping/organizing side of things quite a bit and I’m really excited about some new things that are in the works for my business. I’m always asking myself how things could be better and then I try and change them. Though it probably sounds super dorky, it’s a part of the business I LOVE and I’m really enjoying this concentrated time of getting things in check.

I’d love to say that every time I sit down at my computer, I’m insanely productiveΒ  and focused. Um . . . no such luck. Today I decided that my first order of business would be to look through some old pictures of Buddy. πŸ™‚ I did a “day in the life” session with my pride and joy just a few months ago and I realized that I never shared my favorites from it! Don’t worry – a day in the life of buddy only requires about 10 minutes of shooting because he basically does the same 5 things over and over again throughout the day. Here are three of my favorite things that Buddy does all day.

Buddy tries very very hard to understand us when we’re talking to him. I think it helps him a bit to tilt his head to the side. Also – anytime you see Buddy sitting around in the house, he’ll most likely be kickin’ it with Baby. Baby is Buddy’s . . . baby. We call him that because every time Buddy goes somewhere, he takes Baby with him and as soon as he gets there, he sits down and grooms Baby. He also likes to pull Baby’s arms off. That’s a whole other issue.

Action shot! Buddy yawns a LOT. I’m not sure why, but he’s a HUGE yawner. Actually, come to think of it, he yawns a lot while I’m talking to him. Maybe he’s trying to tell me something.

Buddy loves getting his belly scratched. I blame Stan. Stan is the best belly scratcher (I hear) in the world. He has won the belly-scratching state championship four years in a row now. Yeah. So, when Buddy hears a person approaching, he immediately stops whatever he’s doing and flips over to make himself available to scratchy fingers. He also does this when confronted by a large dog.

“Seriously. Scratch it.”

(okay, back to work I go. πŸ™‚ )

One picture from Hawaii

Yay! I can post pictures again – yippee! I don’t know why I can’t stand blogging without pictures, but I just can’t do it!

Here’s just one picture of Stan and I in Hawaii before I get the big post going. Don’t we look relaxed, happy, and tan?! πŸ™‚Β  This was taken on the day that we went on a full-day snorkeling trip around the island of Lana’i. I will tell you a lot more about it in my next post, but it was INCREDIBLE. We actually took the trip twice because it was SO awesome! I will definitely give yall the information so that if you go to Maui you can go because it was, by far, the highlight of our trip!

(why did that crazy lady have to stick her arms in my picture?! Ugh! πŸ™‚ )

A Little More

Since I still can’t post any pictures (ugh!), I thought I would share this with you . . .

  • I AM … truly happy
  • I WANT… to learn the art of real selflessness
  • I HAVE … literally, without a doubt, the best dog in the world!
  • I KEEP … starting books and never finishing them
  • I WISH I COULD … dance really really really well
  • I HATE … pride
  • I FEAR … living a life where *I* am the focus instead of others
  • I HEAR … everything! I have super-sonic hearing – sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse! πŸ™‚
  • I DON’T THINK … I’ll be running that 5K at the end of the month
  • I REGRET … not getting a haircut last week as planned ; )
  • I LOVE … my family, my friends, and my God . . . and cake
  • I AM NOT … good at learning new languages
  • I DANCE … all the time and with all my heart!
  • I SING … in the shower when I’m home alone to keep the robbers away. πŸ™‚ seriously.
  • I NEVER … get up with the alarm without pressing snooze
  • I RARELY … get sick
  • I CRY WHEN I WATCH … Hope Floats. Good gracious!
  • I AM NOT ALWAYS … patient. but i am learning.
  • I HATE THAT … you can’t just eat what you want, when you want it, without any health side effects! food is so good!
  • I’M CONFUSED ABOUT … why we care, at all, about celebrities. I don’t understand our strange curiosity about their lives.
  • I SHOULD … pray more.

Thanks, Kate Mefford! πŸ™‚

I’m not ignoring you!

Hey guys!

Just wanted to let you know that I’m not a complete lame-o, as you might believe from my failure to blog about our trip to Hawaii yet. πŸ™‚ I actually have been having some computer glitches that are making it impossible for me to post photos right now, so I am saving my post until I’m able to post photos again, which should be in the next couple of days. I promise lots of good stuff in the near future!

Also, I just wanted to take this opportunity to ask you to go ahead and subscribe to my blog by clicking on the orange icon up there right next to the web address. πŸ™‚ Man, since I’ve started subscribing to blogs instead of just going to everyone’s blog every day, my blog-stalking has been much more efficient! πŸ™‚ Now I only go to your blog if you show up in my reader, which saves a ton of time AND blog-anxiety, as I like to refer to it. πŸ™‚

Big kisses on the cheek,

We’re baaaack!

Hey guys!

Just wanted to do a quick post to let you guys know that we are back from Hawaii and our trip was WONDERFUL! πŸ™‚ We actually flew back in to Dallas yesterday on an overnight flight from Maui. When we returned to Stan’s parents’ house, Stan’s mom offered us a beer . . . at 6am. πŸ™‚ Whew! We were all a bit jet lagged and groggy, but we’re back! I’m currently wading through a seemingly never-ending sea of emails and phone calls to return, but I’ll be sure to post more pics and details of our fun time soon!
